Gouache paints with coloured pencil on watercolour paper
*** This is technically a re-posting of this illustration. I plan to do so with all of my Potter art work building up (hopefully) to having some new stuff to share there after. So if you feel like you've seen this before - you probably have. On the upside, I'm sharing it at a larger resolution and without the DeviantArt watermark on it now ***
It's not an insanely dramatic scene, but I enjoy it very much. It involves Hagrid, so I was a happy illustrator, but I was pleased with the mood and just how it turned out.
Fun Fact: This was the first scene I just absolutely had in my mind to illustrate. I didn't start reading the books till well after the movies had started running, so I was already familiar with how the films interpreted the scene. But when I finally read the books, this was the first one I saw in my minds eye as this illustration. And I had started to consider doing this painting by itself before I ever decided to illustrate the whole series... but when I did decide to to that, this scene got put on a back-burner till it came up. Luckily I didn't have to wait too long!
