Harry Potter: Book 2, Ch.09vig by TheGeekCanPaint Harry Potter: Book 2, Ch.09vig by TheGeekCanPaint
Pencil on paper.

The vignettes are fine, but I only enjoy aspects of them. Iím feeling a touch disenfranchised with the vignette drawings, in general lately. I need to get back into them proper and I think they will end up better than theyíve been.

Oh gosh, I love the way you draw Snape. Your vignettes are brilliant.

Wow, the way I draw Snape has been one of my more... shall I say "controversial" interpretations of characters in the Potter series. Always nice to hear when someone likes it ;)

Thanks!!!

The Teachers' faces when they're examind Mrs Norris are hilarious! But my favourite is the one in which Harry tries to be friendly to poor Justin (I got it right, or did I mix it up...).

Amazing work! I look forward to these and I'm always delighted to see how you portray the characters in a particular scene. I love your style and, if it's alright by you because I know how some artists can be, I've been using your style to help improve my own work. I just think it's really interesting and unlike any of the other fan art I've seen before.

Love Ron by the way! :D

First of all, thank you very much for the compliments, I am so glad you enjoy my art!

As for "using my style" - I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Of course, if it's helping you improve your work, you are more than welcome to use my stuff. I'm guessing you're duplicating my illustrations, to train your eye or something like that? Anyway, as long as you don't claim something I've done as your own, I'm cool with you using my illustrations how ever you want ;)

Thanks again!!!

I can't tell that you've been disenfranchise with these. They look great and I love how the kids look like kids. That adds the charm, that a broading Snape in the corner...XD

Thank you very much, but truthfully, they could be better. It's Potter so I'm loving doing them, but not nearly as much as I should/could. I've gotten into a rut doing them - getting them done to get them done, more than (as cheesy as it sounds) expressing my love for the story through my art. I want to get them done quickly, but I'm speeding through them more than making sure they are as good as they can be.

And yes, that's Snape back there ;)

No I understand what you mean, you what to express not just get to a deadline. Hmm thats a tough one.

But on a lighter note I had read some where that you hope to publish some of your work...I would look forward to that.

I do hope to get my stuff published. I'm not crazy, I know it isn't realistic, but I'm not giving up hope on the idea yet. I've only tried once so far, and I'll try again when I finish illustrations for Chamber of Secrets.

Only once! I heard it takes more then a good dozen and hey if truth be told all of the good writers have gotten rejected too many times. I think, no wait I know you can do it.

Thank you!

I just think the seiries is eventually destin to have an illusrated edition. I don't want to sound arrogant, or anything of the sort, but I do feel I am the right one for the job. I think I'm good enough, but more so than that, I think I have the right heart for the job. I think I get the story, my style suits it fairly well, and I will be sure to get the details correct ;) I've had very few complaints from Potter fans about my stuff.

Anyway, enough of that. Thank you again. We'll see what the future holds.

Your right about that. You are good and it has the offical feeling of the book. I don't doubt that you would be the best person for the job and they better get a illusrated edition!

first, of all don't get me wrong, it is different in a Good way.

but maybe it's because of the movie, or because of general fandom impression of filch as having a long face, long sallow features, and thining long hair real badly kept clothes

to suddenly see the opposite- a more plumpy fluffy haired, round face and nose- filch came as a shock.

not a bad shock per say, since again, the movies haven't dictated an image of the characters for everyone, and everyone interprets character looks differently- that's what imagination is for.

just unexpected really- and quite original

No problem - I'm not upest. Even if you didn't like my take on him. Good differen or bad, like you said we all have different veiws of how characters should look.

It's just that I like to make sure I'm as faithful to the sorce marterial as I can be. And in Filch's case I even used a drawing J.K.R. did of him as reference when designing him. So when you reacted with surprise, I was curious how.

But again, no worries :)

Hmm... I found it a while ago, so I'm not sure the original place I got it from. But I saved it on my own computer. I'd be happy to email you a copy of it.

Great stuff! Especially love Dumbledore hmm-ing over Mrs. Norris while Lockhart blathers, and Percy yelling at Ron. :)
