Pencil on paper

As for these vignette drawings, there are less of them than normal, but that’s because there is a surprising amount of simply talking going on in this chapter. It’s a great seen, and you learn a lot, but there are only so many pictures I could do of Tom Riddle explaining everything. That said, I really like the way all the drawings of Tom turned out.

Also, the Basilisk. besides when Harry kills it, there weren’t many other moments that “needed” featuring. Mostly I wanted to show it as it is, before it’s eyes are clawed, even though in the end, it just looks like a picture of a snake. Much like why I didn’t paint the fight with the giant snake for the chapters main illustration, I did these knowing it was going to be featured in the big painting... which is still to come.

Since I've just finished reading John Howe's 'Forging Dragons' (half-book, half-artbook really), in which Mr Howe often focuses on details of snakes' anatomy and the way they can be used in depicting dragons, i particularly enjoy the two sketches of the Basilisk. Particularly the one with the open maw is the sight to enjoy!

I also agree that he delectable Mr Riddle turned out well. Btw. everytime I see the scene with 'I am Lord Voldemort' hanging in the air I can't help laughing, as another word combination that can be created from 'Tom Marvolo Riddle' is 'Mr Lead Drool Vomit'.... Wonder what Voldie'd say if someone dared to tell him that! :D

When can we expect the awesome picture of Harry vs the Basilisk? ;)

Thank you! that's nice to hear, because I struggled a little with the Basilisk. I didn't care for how the movies handled it - I felt it needed to look more like a traditional snake, while still maintaining a "monster" quality.

I am actually in the midst of painting the picture of Harry and the Basilisk now. It might take some time because it's twice the size of my usual paintings. But the drawing is down on the paper and I will begin applying paint today :)

Ahh, those are good news indeed! Never enough of HP's fantastic creatures!
And, of course, you don't have to base your pictures on the movies - although I guess they can be an inspiration from time to time. The way I imagine 'Harry Potter' characters, creatures etc is about 60-70% my own imagination and the rest is from the movies (especially the locations; I do adore the moveis' Hogwarts so!).

Good grief. I actually got goosebumps.
Sometimes there's nothing to say except 'wow' because my mind is overwhelmed.
So. Yeah. Wow.
Fangs. I have to say fangs. Yep.

Very intense scenes here with the Basilisk and the destruction of the diary! I like how you did that one in a series of panels!
