Oz Logo by TheGeekCanPaint Oz Logo by TheGeekCanPaint
Gouache paints with coloured pencil on watercolour paper - then digital work via Photoshop.

There are original dimensions for the painting in the background, but I've done so much manipulation to it... it doesn't really matter anymore.

My husband and I are directing a production of "The Wizard of Oz" this summer. I wanted to do more than just the words and all the typical stuff you see in an Oz logo, but we were fairly limited with what we could do. I'm a little disappointed how much editing I had to do on the computer to make the logo work - but that said, I do like how it turned out... even if most of it is digital.

Mostly I'm excited to be past this and able to move on to subjects I'm a bit more passionate to work on.

As a kid, our dad used to get all five of us on the sofa around him as he read one of the Oz books to us. I was lucky enough to have 12 of the original books passed down to me. For inspiration for your production, you may like to Google John R. Neill, the illustrator for the original books. BTW, I think the above is right in keeping with the tone of all the books. Nice job!

Thanks for the suggestion! My hubby is quite familiar with all things Oz and Neill's illustrations as well as W.W.Denslow's are definitely a source of inspiration. While it's the stage show and not the books, we're trying to pay a bit more homage to the books and set it in the sometime and bring in a few elements traditionally forgotten.

Nice to know the logo if fitting the bill so far - thanks! :)

Absolutely awesome. I'm doing book cover design for University coursework right now and I wish I could submit this standard of work.

Thank you so much! It went through many phases before it ended with the one you see... which is not at all like what I'd originally plan.
